Hyperpigmentation is odd coloured skin patches generated from excess melanin production. Excess caused by everything from acne scars and sun damage to hormone fluctuations.
In our London practice, we mostly offer hyperpigmentation treatments for superficial pigmentation that is caused by the sun. Namely, age spots and sun spots. However, We avoid treating hormonal pigmentation and pigmentation caused by Melasma.
When you come to your skin consultation, we preform a full skin analysis using the VISIA , the most advanced system for skin diagnosis, and let you know what kind of pigmentation you have.
IPL for Hyperpigmentation treatment
Hyperpigmentation treatment in our London clinic is done with IPL technology. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and is a around since the 90’s. IPL is a wonderful technology that can also treat vascular lesions and Acne. Luckily, Lumecca IPL is one of the best IPL’s the market has to offer and is especially good for Hyperpigmentation treatments.
The IPL produces intense light that is targeted on the treated skin. As a result, this light is absorbed by the pigment (Melanin) that is present in the hyperpigmentation. Since the rest of the skin do not have as much pigment, it is not is not effected by the light. Consequently, the absorbtion of the light translates in to heat, which breaks down the pigment.
Finally, Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots. In the week following treatment the pigmented lesions flake off, and your skin tone will appear evened out.
The hyperpigmentation treatment in our London pratice is especially safe because it has saphire contact cooling. The extra cooling ensures that your skin will not burn from the intense light during the treatment.
